How We Make Money

A free site with one source of income

ExtremeSpec is free to read. There is no paywall, no subscription and no store. The only money the site earns comes from affiliate commissions on qualifying purchases made through links to Amazon.

How a commission works

You click a product link, land on the store and buy something. The store pays ExtremeSpec a small share of that sale. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway. The exact wording we use is on the Affiliate Disclosure page.

Why we chose this model

PC hardware readers usually want to see where a product can be bought, and a listing with a store link is useful on its own. Affiliate commissions let us publish that information without charging readers or filling pages with display ads. The site shows no display ads at the moment.

Keeping commissions from steering coverage

A commission program creates an obvious temptation, so we set limits on ourselves.

  • Products are chosen for reader usefulness, search demand and availability, as set out in the Editorial Policy.
  • The ExtremeSpec Editorial Team reviews drafts for accuracy before publishing, whether or not a page contains affiliate links.
  • A product does not rank higher because it pays more.
  • Descriptions stick to published specifications and owner feedback.

What we do not accept

ExtremeSpec does not accept payment for positive coverage. We have no sponsorship or partnership deals to report, and we won’t describe a product favorably in return for money, free products or any other benefit.

What this means for you

You never need to use our links, and you pay nothing extra if you do. If you would rather support the site, using a link before you buy is enough. If you would rather not, you can search for the product yourself.
